How many characters can I send via SMS?
- 160 characters for a standard SMS in GSM-7 encoding (basic Latin alphabet, without emoji or Arabic characters)
- 70 characters if your message contains Unicode characters (Arabic, emoji, certain accented characters such as certain specific combinations)
Longer messages (concatenated)
A message exceeding this limit is automatically split into several segments (concatenated SMS):
- 153 characters per segment in GSM-7 beyond the first SMS
- 67 characters per segment in Unicode beyond the first SMS
Each segment is billed as a separate SMS. The character counter in your dashboard's message editor displays the number of segments and the corresponding cost in real time.
Tip
Avoid emojis and favor the Latin alphabet as much as possible if you want to maximize the number of characters per SMS credit sent.
