1. Methodology and Measurement Integrity
The figures are computed on messages actually sent by customers of the EnvoiSMS.ma platform, test sends excluded, for each calendar month (UTC). A message counts once the carrier has returned a final report (delivered, failed or undeliverable); messages without a final report are left out. The carrier is determined from the number's prefix, so a number ported to another network may be counted under its original carrier. Below 50 final reports, no rate is published. Each edition is published on the 2nd of the following month and never changed afterwards. This is EnvoiSMS's own traffic: results depend on the customers, senders and content of the month, and are not a market study.

2. Measured Delivery Rates by Carrier (August 2026)
In August 2026, 91.8% of SMS sent to the three Moroccan carriers that received a final report were delivered. By carrier: Maroc Telecom 92.1%, Orange 90.2%, Inwi 92.4%. These messages travel over our local routes to IAM, Orange and Inwi, with automatic failover between routes. Qualitative observation, not quantified here: grey routes (SIM farms, undeclared transit) are filtered by the local carriers, which delays or blocks part of the traffic.

3. Time to Carrier Confirmation (OTP)
For 2FA and checkout flows, waiting time drives abandonment. In August 2026, the median time to carrier confirmation is 13 to 40 s depending on the carrier. This runs from submission until the carrier's delivery receipt comes back; it does not measure the moment the code appears on the handset. Qualitative observation, not measured here: routes that hop through multiple foreign transit points take longer, and can replace the Sender ID with an unknown number.

4. Regulatory Compliance: ANRT Regulations & CNDP Law 09-08
Enterprise messaging in Morocco operates under strict regulatory oversight. ANRT regulations govern alphanumeric Sender ID registration and restricts promotional messaging to 08:00–21:00 Moroccan local time. Marketing messages must include an explicit opt-out mechanism (STOP). In addition, CNDP Law 09-08 mandates secure processing of citizen phone numbers without unauthorized international transfer.

5. SMS vs WhatsApp for Moroccan E-Commerce: Qualitative Notes
Qualitative observation, not quantified: a large share of Moroccan online orders are paid cash on delivery (COD), and confirming the order with the customer before dispatch aims to avoid returned parcels and wasted courier fees. WhatsApp lets the customer answer in one tap with interactive buttons; SMS reaches every handset, with or without a data connection. EnvoiSMS does not publish an order-confirmation rate: we have no measured sample that supports one. On delivery, the month's WhatsApp sample is below the publication floor, so this edition carries no WhatsApp rate.

- A2P SMS (Application-to-Person): Automated enterprise messaging sent from software systems (banks, e-commerce, CRM) to customer mobile handsets, distinguished from peer-to-peer (P2P) SMS.
- OTP Code (One-Time Password): Time-sensitive single-use numerical code (e.g. 6 digits) used to authenticate user logins and verify payment transactions (2FA).
- SMPP Protocol (Short Message Peer-to-Peer): Standard telecommunications protocol for exchanging SMS between messaging platforms, gateways and mobile operators.
