How Smart Cascade (WhatsApp to SMS) Verification Works

How Smart Cascade WhatsApp to SMS Works

Smart Cascade is EnvoiSMS's automatic fallback engine for multichannel OTP verification. It delivers OTPs via WhatsApp first, triggering SMS fallback only if undelivered after 30s.

1. Delivery Receipts (DLR) vs Human Typing Speed

Traditional verification cascades rely on human validation timers. However, production data reveals that users take an average of 38.5 seconds to type their code, whereas WhatsApp delivers in an average of 10.5 seconds (94.4% delivered under 35s). Triggering an SMS just because a user took >45s to validate sent duplicate SMS in over 22% of cases.

Smart Cascade checks Meta carrier delivery receipts (DLR): as soon as WhatsApp confirms delivery (delivered or read), the fallback SMS is immediately disarmed. Your account balance is never double-debited.

2. Immediate Fast-Failover

If the recipient does not have WhatsApp or Meta reports an immediate failure, Smart Cascade does not wait for the 30-second timeout: local GSM SMS fallback is triggered instantly with the identical OTP code.

3. What does 0/3 attempts mean?

In your dashboard, 0 / 3 indicates the number of incorrect verification attempts entered by the user out of the total allowed before security lockout. A 0 / 3 status confirms a healthy session with zero failed attempts.
